Superior is a city at the far northwestern tip of Wisconsin, set on Lake Superior at the head of the greatest of the Great Lakes where it shares a harbor with Duluth, Minnesota. As the seat of Douglas County and one of the busiest ports on the lakes, the city grew around shipping, with grain elevators, ore docks, and the vast harbor defining its industrial character. Superior sits where the St. Louis and Nemadji rivers meet the lake, with the cool waters of Lake Superior shaping the seasons. The Twin Ports region anchors the far north. Golfers in the area find recreational courses, including a notable thirty-six-hole municipal facility, set near the lake and the river country. With Duluth across the harbor and the Lake Superior shore stretching east, Superior offers a base for golf in northwestern Wisconsin, on the shore of the greatest Great Lake.
