Emerald Hills Golf Course sits in the Emerald Lake Hills area of unincorporated San Mateo County, in the wooded hills between Redwood City and the Woodside community. Emerald Lake Hills is a residential enclave in the forested hill terrain of the San Mateo County peninsula, positioned above the Redwood City flatlands and below the Skyline Ridge that forms the spine of the peninsula. The area is in the wooded hills accessed via the Edgewood Road corridor above Redwood City, in a semi-rural residential zone characteristic of the middle elevations of the San Mateo County peninsula hills.
