Marshwood is in Savannah, Chatham County, in southeast Georgia. Savannah is the oldest city in Georgia, founded in 1733 by James Oglethorpe as the first settlement of the Georgia Colony. The city is celebrated for its historic urban plan of 22 parklike squares linked by a grid of streets, its antebellum architecture, and its position on the Savannah River at the Georgia-South Carolina border. Savannah's Historic District is one of the largest in the United States and draws significant tourism, and the Georgia Ports Authority operates one of the busiest container ports on the East Coast at the Garden City Terminal near Savannah.
