Mackay is a mining-history town that now survives on outdoor recreation and ranching, and the course sits in the valley that stretches below peaks of extraordinary relief. The Lost River Range rises abruptly from the valley floor to over 12,000 feet, making this one of the most geographically dramatic settings for a small-town course anywhere in the American West. The 1983 Borah Peak earthquake, one of the largest in Idaho history, centered just north of Mackay.
