Kincheloe is a community that grew around Kincheloe Air Force Base, now serving as the site of Chippewa County International Airport after the base was closed under the post-Cold War BRAC process. Chippewa County is the UP's easternmost county, anchored by Sault Sainte Marie where the historic Soo Locks on the St. Marys River connect Lake Superior to the lower Great Lakes. Two golf courses serve the Kincheloe-area military and civilian community in the eastern UP.
