Saint Ignace Golf and Country Club is in St. Ignace, Mackinac County, in Michigan's Upper Peninsula. St. Ignace is the county seat of Mackinac County and the UP's southern gateway, the community at the UP end of the Mackinac Bridge. The bridge, opened in 1957 and spanning five miles across the Straits of Mackinac, connected the two peninsulas for the first time and transformed both St. Ignace and Mackinaw City into gateway communities. St. Ignace is named for the Jesuit mission established here in 1671, making it one of the oldest continuously inhabited European settlements in the Great Lakes region.
