Golf in Monte Rio

Monte Rio is a small community in Sonoma County in the Russian River corridor, west of Guerneville along State Route 116. The community sits in a narrow canyon where the Russian River runs through the redwood-forested coastal mountains of western Sonoma County. The Russian River corridor in this area is a popular summer destination, with swimming, kayaking, and camping drawing visitors from the Bay Area. Monte Rio has a very small permanent population and a modest commercial area along the river corridor road. The community is primarily residential with vacation properties mixed among permanent homes in the canyon terrain. State Route 116 connects Monte Rio to Guerneville to the east and to Cazadero and the Sonoma coast road to the west. The surrounding coastal redwood and mixed forest gives the area a distinct character from the wine country communities further east in the county.
