Golf in Normal

Normal is Illinois State University's home city, the northern half of the Bloomington-Normal Twin Cities metropolitan area, and one of the few Illinois communities whose identity is primarily defined by a university rather than industry or agriculture. ISU's enrollment of roughly 20,000 generates a steady demand for recreational amenities, and Weibring Golf Club — named for ISU alumnus and PGA Tour winner D.A. Weibring — provides the university's dedicated course, while Ironwood Golf Course serves the broader community. Normal's relationship with Bloomington is complementary rather than competitive, with the two cities sharing a metro economy built on insurance, healthcare, and education. The flat McLean County terrain gives both cities' golf courses a distinctly prairie character.
