Golf in Caribou

Caribou is one of the northernmost cities in the eastern United States, deep in Aroostook County's vast potato-farming landscape near the New Brunswick border. The Caribou River flows through town before joining the Aroostook River system, and the surrounding plains — flat, glacially scoured, extraordinarily productive for potatoes, oats, and broccoli — stretch to every horizon. Winters here are among the most severe in the continental United States outside of high mountain areas. Caribou Country Club's nine holes offer recreational golf during the brief but vivid northern Maine summer, when the long days and clear northern light make the compressed season feel almost sufficient.
