Golf in Limestone

1 golf course in Limestone, Maine.

Limestone is an Aroostook County community defined significantly by its relationship to Loring Air Force Base, the massive Strategic Air Command installation that operated from 1947 to 1994. Loring was the northernmost SAC base in the continental United States and, at its peak, home to thousands of military personnel and their families. The base's closure left Limestone navigating a significant economic transition, and the Loring Commerce Centre now occupies much of the former base property. The surrounding agricultural landscape — potatoes, oats, broccoli — characterizes the broader Aroostook County plain that extends in every direction. Lime Rock Golf Club serves a community still defining its post-military identity.
