Gaylord is the county seat of Otsego County in the northern Lower Peninsula, a community that has developed into one of Michigan's most significant golf destinations—more than a dozen courses in the immediate area, plus several more in the surrounding county, have earned Gaylord the title of 'Michigan's premier golf destination.' The community's elevation of 1,300 feet above sea level—the highest county seat in the Lower Peninsula—gives it a climate slightly cooler than the lower elevations, extending the mountain-like character of the surrounding terrain. The combination of Treetops Resort (with courses by Rick Smith, Robert Trent Jones Sr., and other notable designers) and the many other quality public and semi-private courses makes Gaylord a genuine golf destination for the entire Great Lakes region.
