Golf in Shelby

Shelby is the Toole County seat on the Hi-Line, a town with an improbable boxing history — the 1923 Dempsey-Gibbons world heavyweight championship was held here, a promotion that nearly bankrupted the town but cemented its identity. Present-day Shelby runs on oil and agriculture, and Marias Valley Golf & Country Club serves the community in the Marias River valley terrain. The Sweet Grass Hills provide an eastern backdrop and the Rockies appear in the distance to the southwest on clear afternoons. The Canadian border is less than an hour north, and the Sweetgrass-Coutts crossing point is one of Montana's busiest international ports of entry.
