Calabash is a small town in the far southern tip of Brunswick County, near the South Carolina border at the mouth of the Calabash River. The town is known throughout the Southeast for Calabash-style seafood — a breading and frying technique developed by the local fishing community — and numerous seafood restaurants line the waterfront. The Calabash area is also part of the Brunswick County coastal golf corridor, with several courses in the immediate vicinity of the town. The southern Brunswick County coast from Calabash through Ocean Isle Beach and Sunset Beach forms one of the densest golf resort concentrations near the NC-SC border.
