Golf in Aztec

Aztec is a small San Juan County city at roughly 5,600 feet along the Animas River, named for Aztec Ruins National Monument — a misattribution made by early Anglo settlers who credited the masonry to Aztec builders rather than the actual Ancestral Puebloan communities who constructed it. The monument's Great House, completed around 1110 CE, is among the most significant pre-Columbian structures in the Four Corners region. Aztec serves as a quieter residential counterpart to Farmington, with Hidden Valley Golf Club providing local recreational golf in a setting where the Animas River corridor provides the green infrastructure that makes turf maintenance viable in an otherwise high-desert environment.
