Golf in Clayton

Clayton is the Union County seat at roughly 5,000 feet in the far northeastern corner of New Mexico, where the high-plains landscape of the Raton Mesa meets the Oklahoma and Texas panhandle country. Capulin Volcano National Monument, a well-preserved cinder cone rising 1,500 feet above the surrounding mesa, sits just west of town. The Santa Fe Trail passed through the area, and Clayton's economy today centers on ranching and agriculture. Clayton Golf Club serves the community in a high-plains setting where the enormous sky and flat terrain define the playing experience — a genuinely remote location where local recreational infrastructure carries outsized importance.
