Golf in Cochiti Lake

Cochiti Lake sits above a U.S. Army Corps of Engineers dam on the Rio Grande in Sandoval County, roughly 50 miles north of Albuquerque at around 5,400 feet. Cochiti Pueblo, one of New Mexico's Keresan-speaking pueblos, occupies land adjacent to the reservoir. The landscape here is shaped by the Rio Grande Rift — volcanic mesas, cottonwood bosque, and the beginning of the canyon country that defines the northern river corridor. Cochiti Golf Course has developed a reputation as one of the more interesting desert layouts in the state, with volcanic terrain providing natural hazards that course design rarely replicates. The relative isolation from the Albuquerque metro gives the course a quiet character that contrasts with the busier urban facilities to the south.
