Golf in Española

Española occupies the Rio Arriba County section of the Española Valley at roughly 5,600 feet, a community at the confluence of the Rio Grande and Rio Chama rivers with deep Spanish colonial and Northern Pueblo roots. The Española Valley was one of the earliest European settlement corridors in what would become the United States; the founding of San Juan Pueblo by Spanish colonists in 1598 occurred just north of the present-day city. The surrounding landscape reflects the dramatic geology of the Rio Grande Rift — volcanic mesas, river canyons, and the distant Sangre de Cristo peaks define a visual palette of unusual richness. Black Mesa Golf Club brings high-desert mesa golf to the valley, with the dark volcanic formations that give the course its name visible from several points on the routing.
