Golf in Hobbs

Hobbs is the largest city in Lea County and the commercial heart of New Mexico's share of the Permian Basin, where petroleum extraction has driven growth and bust cycles throughout the twentieth century. At roughly 3,600 feet on the flat Llano Estacado, the city sits physically closer to Midland-Odessa than to Albuquerque — the West Texas character of the landscape and culture is unmistakable. Two golf courses serve the area: Hobbs Country Club provides private membership golf, while Rockwind Community Links offers recreational play. Wind is a defining feature of golf on the Llano Estacado — the flat terrain offers no protection, and direction management becomes as important a skill as club selection.
