Golf in Carlsbad

Carlsbad sits in Eddy County along the Pecos River at roughly 3,100 feet, the southern end of the Pecos Valley where potash mining and petroleum extraction have sustained the local economy for a century. Carlsbad Caverns National Park, 25 miles to the southwest, is the city's most significant visitor draw — the cave system's main chamber is one of the largest underground spaces in the Western Hemisphere, and the nightly bat flight at the cave entrance draws spectators from around the world. Two golf courses serve the Carlsbad area: Lake Carlsbad Municipal Golf Course uses the Pecos River corridor as its natural framework, while Riverside Country Club offers private membership golf. Warm temperatures and minimal elevation make Carlsbad a year-round golf destination in all but extreme summer heat.
