Golf in Gearhart

Gearhart is a small residential community on the north Oregon coast in Clatsop County, just north of Seaside and south of the Columbia River's Pacific outlet. The Gearhart Golf Links is considered the oldest golf course in Oregon, established in the 1890s when the railroad brought Portland's leisure class to the coast. That history gives the course and community a weight unusual in Oregon golf — this is where the state's golf tradition arguably began. The surrounding community is quiet and unhurried, more residential than resort, with the Pacific visible from elevated positions and the links turf shaped by the consistent coastal wind.
