Golf in Myrtle Creek

Myrtle Creek is a Douglas County community in the upper South Umpqua River valley, south of Roseburg on the I-5 corridor in the transitional zone between the Willamette Valley and the Siskiyou country of extreme southern Oregon. The myrtle trees that give the town its name — Pacific myrtlewood, Oregon's only commercial hardwood — are native to this part of the coast and reflect the mixed-conifer character of the surrounding forest. Golf in Myrtle Creek serves the upper South Umpqua corridor, a community with deep timber and agricultural roots positioned along the main north-south arterial of the state. The timber economy that built Myrtle Creek has evolved, but the surrounding Douglas County forests remain defining features of the community's identity. Cougar Canyon Golf Course takes its name from the rugged terrain that characterizes this transition zone between the valley and the Cascades.
