Golf in Myrtle Point

Myrtle Point is a Coos County community along the South Fork Coquille River in the Coast Range interior, a timber town that has navigated the post-mill economic transition familiar to many Oregon coast range communities. The surrounding forest is dense — second-growth Douglas fir and the myrtlewood groves that give the town its name — and the river provides both scenic character and salmon habitat. Golf in Myrtle Point serves an inland coastal community somewhat removed from the ocean itself, embedded in the working forest landscape that still defines much of the interior coast. The Coquille River valley's dairy farms and forestry operations give Myrtle Point a working-landscape identity similar to Tillamook to the north, and the community maintains a golf facility that serves recreational needs in a coastal interior corridor not well served by resort destinations.
