Golf in St. George

St. George is the seat of Washington County and the hub of Utah's 'Dixie' region — so called by early settlers who attempted, unsuccessfully, to grow cotton in the warm climate. The city has experienced extraordinary growth since the 1990s, driven by retirees from the colder parts of Utah, Nevada, and beyond who prize the mild winters and the outdoor recreation access. At roughly 2,700 feet elevation, St. George enjoys a year-round climate that makes it genuinely unique in Utah — golf here in January is a normal occurrence. The city operates one of the more impressive municipal golf portfolios in the region, with Sunbrook, Southgate, St. George Golf Club, and Dixie Red Hills all under city management. Washington County as a whole has become one of the Southwest's most golf-dense regions, with courses integrated into the distinctive red rock terrain.
