Palos Verdes Shores Golf Course sits in San Pedro, the harbor district of Los Angeles at the northern base of the Palos Verdes Peninsula. San Pedro occupies the coastal flatlands between the Palos Verdes hills and the Port of Los Angeles, one of the busiest container ports in the United States. The golf course reflects the recreational character of San Pedro's water's-edge and coastal zone, in a part of Los Angeles that has maintained a distinct maritime neighborhood identity despite being absorbed into the city in the early twentieth century.
