Wickenburg is a small community in western Yavapai County and southwestern Maricopa County in the Hassayampa River valley northwest of Phoenix, known for its western heritage and the dude ranch tradition that has attracted visitors to the Arizona desert for decades. The town has a distinct western character with a notable downtown along Tegner Street, the Jail Tree where outlaws were once chained, and deep roots in gold mining and cattle ranching in the rugged desert terrain. The Vulture Mine north of Wickenburg was one of the more productive gold mines in Arizona territory, and Wickenburg grew from the mining era into a ranching and tourism community. Wickenburg straddles the Maricopa-Yavapai County line in the Hassayampa River corridor at roughly 2,100 feet elevation. Four courses serve the Wickenburg community in the desert terrain of western Yavapai County.
