La Verne is a city in Los Angeles County in the eastern San Gabriel Valley foothills, east of Claremont and west of the San Bernardino County line. The city occupies foothill terrain at the base of the San Gabriel Mountains, in the corridor where the San Gabriel Valley transitions to the Inland Empire. Los Angeles County's eastern foothill cities, including La Verne and San Dimas, have a residential character with commercial development along Foothill Boulevard and Arrow Highway. The University of La Verne is in the city and provides a liberal arts university presence. The Gold Line rail corridor runs through the area. Interstate 210 provides freeway access. The city has older traditional neighborhoods alongside newer foothill development.
