Golf in San Mateo

San Mateo is the most populous city in San Mateo County, on the eastern side of the San Francisco Peninsula between San Francisco to the north and San Jose to the south. The city serves as the county's main commercial center and has a substantial business base along the Highway 101 corridor. The city has a traditional downtown on Third Avenue and B Street with restaurants, retail, and offices. CalTrain runs through the city, and Highway 101 provides the main north-south freeway. San Mateo College is within the city limits. The city has a diverse residential population spread across neighborhoods ranging from older areas near downtown to newer development on the outskirts. The bay is a few miles east, and the Santa Cruz Mountains foothill terrain is visible to the west. San Mateo is the main commercial hub for the midpeninsula.
