Columbus is Georgia's second-largest city by population, situated on the Chattahoochee River at the fall line bordering Alabama. The city is home to Fort Moore (formerly Fort Benning), one of the largest US Army installations in the country and the home of the Infantry and Armor schools, which has been the dominant driver of the regional economy for decades.
