Golf in Pocatello

Pocatello is southeastern Idaho's largest city, anchored by Idaho State University and the Union Pacific railroad heritage that shaped its founding in Bannock County. The city occupies a narrow valley where the Portneuf River passes through the Fort Hall Bottoms—a geographic constraint giving Pocatello a compact, topographically interesting character. Three courses serve the city: Highland's elevated canyon-rim terrain, Riverside's Portneuf River flatland, and Juniper Hills' private hillside setting south of town. ISU sustains a younger, more diverse demographic than many comparably sized Idaho communities, and the university's presence alongside rail history gives Pocatello a depth unusual for a city of its size in the rural Mountain West.
