Golf in Belle Isle

Belle Isle is a state park island in the Detroit River between Detroit and Windsor, Ontario, a park designed by Frederick Law Olmsted in 1883 whose aquarium, conservatory, and extensive recreational facilities once served as Detroit's premier summer escape for residents of one of America's great industrial cities. The island's golf course served the working-class and middle-class Detroiters who used Belle Isle's facilities for picnics, swimming, and outdoor recreation in an era when the city park was the primary recreational outlet for the urban population. Belle Isle remains accessible from Detroit and continues to function as the city's most significant natural park amenity.
