Golf in Detroit

Detroit is the largest city in Michigan and one of the great American cities, whose identity as the Motor City—the global center of automobile manufacturing for most of the twentieth century—shaped not only Michigan but American industrial and cultural history. The city's neighborhoods reflect this history: the Boulevard of Champions east side, the labor movement's legacy in Hamtramck and the east side, the Motown sound's birth on West Grand Boulevard, and the architectural grandeur of a city that was briefly the fourth-largest in America at the peak of automotive production. Golf in Detroit includes both the historic Belle Isle course and the Detroit Golf Club on the north end, which hosted US Opens in 1916 and 1954 and stands as one of the country's great historic golf institutions.
