Golf in Elko

Elko is northeastern Nevada's largest city, a community of roughly 20,000 shaped equally by the gold mining industry, Basque cultural heritage, and its position as a crossroads on Interstate 80. The city sits at about 5,000 feet in a wide valley flanked by the Ruby Mountains to the south — peaks that exceed 11,000 feet and harbor wilderness hiking, fishing, and one of Nevada's finest small ski areas. The Basque presence, brought by sheepherding communities in the nineteenth century, lives on in several downtown Basque restaurants. Ruby View Golf Course plays to par 71 across 18 holes and operates as the city's primary golf facility, taking its name from the mountain range that defines Elko's southern horizon. Golf here runs from roughly May through October, with the elevation keeping summers comfortable.
