Golf in Middletown

Middletown occupies the central section of Aquidneck Island between Newport to the south and Portsmouth to the north. The town developed largely in the postwar era as housing and commercial services for Newport's substantial naval population, and its character reflects that suburban-military heritage. Second Beach and Third Beach on the eastern shore draw summer crowds seeking the wide sandy strands that complement Newport's Cliff Walk and First Beach nearby. Middletown's inland areas are less visited but offer a more residential experience of island life. The town's golf facilities serve both the year-round community and the considerable number of visitors who use Middletown as a base for exploring Newport.
