Golf in Crossville

Crossville carries the official designation of Golf Capital of Tennessee, a title earned through a concentration of courses on the Cumberland Plateau that has few parallels in the state. The plateau's flat-to-gently-varied terrain, its position between the Highland Rim valleys and the Appalachian escarpment, and its cooler climate create conditions well suited to course development — and developers and retirees found each other here beginning in the 1970s and 1980s, producing a cluster of planned communities anchored by golf. Fairfield Glade to the north and Cumberland Cove to the south are among the largest planned communities in Tennessee, each built around multiple courses in the plateau's mixed hardwood forest. Crossville itself serves as the commercial center for Cumberland County and the wider plateau, making it a hub for both full-time residents and the considerable second-home population that gravitates to this elevated, four-season landscape.
