Golf in Mineral Wells

Mineral Wells is the county seat of Palo Pinto County in the Palo Pinto Mountains west of Fort Worth, known for the natural mineral springs that were believed to have therapeutic properties and attracted visitors in the early twentieth century. The Baker Hotel, a grand structure that anchored the resort era and is now undergoing restoration, is the most prominent reminder of the mineral spring tourism that shaped the community. The Palo Pinto Mountains and the Brazos River valley west of Mineral Wells provide a more rugged terrain than most of the DFW surrounding area. Possum Kingdom Lake on the Brazos River is a major recreation destination for the region. The city served as an Army training area in World War II, when Camp Wolters trained armored units. One course serves the Mineral Wells community in the rugged Cross Timbers and Palo Pinto terrain west of Fort Worth.
