Randolph Air Force Base is part of the Joint Base San Antonio complex in northeast Bexar County, one of the major Air Force installations in the San Antonio area. Randolph is known as the Showplace of the Air Force for the Mission-Revival style of the Taj Mahal headquarters building and the formal layout of the base, which was laid out in the late 1920s as a model installation. The base serves as a major hub for Air Force personnel commands, including Air Education and Training Command headquarters. Joint Base San Antonio integrates Randolph with Lackland AFB and Fort Sam Houston under one command structure. The terrain of northeast Bexar County is flat to gently varied, in the limestone transition zone east of the Hill Country. One course serves the Randolph community in the northeast Bexar County terrain.
