Golf in Ahwahnee

Ahwahnee is a small community in Madera County in the Sierra Nevada foothills, in the corridor between Fresno and the southern entrance to Yosemite National Park. The community sits at a modest elevation in the foothill zone, where oak woodland and dry grassland characterize the terrain in this inland portion of the Sierra foothills. Madera County spans from the San Joaquin Valley floor to the Yosemite National Park border, and Ahwahnee occupies a mid-foothill position on the main route toward the park's southern entry. State Route 49 passes through this part of Madera County, linking the foothill communities north and south. The Ahwahnee area is primarily residential and agricultural, with limited commercial activity and a quiet rural character. Wine grape cultivation has grown in the Madera County foothills, and some vineyards occupy land in the surrounding area.
