Golf in Friant

Friant is a small community in Fresno County on the San Joaquin River, northeast of Fresno at the base of Millerton Lake. The community sits near Friant Dam, which impounds the San Joaquin River to form Millerton Lake, a reservoir that delivers irrigation water through the Friant-Kern Canal to much of the San Joaquin Valley. Fresno County's foothill communities, including Friant, are in the transitional terrain between the flat valley and the Sierra Nevada foothills. The area draws recreation visitors to Millerton Lake for boating, fishing, and camping, and Friant functions partly as a gateway community for the lake. State Route 145 connects Friant to the Fresno area to the south. The surrounding terrain consists of oak and foothill woodland on the low ridges above the reservoir.
