Golf in Lakewood

Lakewood is a city in Los Angeles County in the southeast portion of the county, south of Downey and adjacent to Long Beach. The city was developed rapidly in the early 1950s as one of the first large-scale planned suburban communities in Southern California, on former agricultural land. Los Angeles County's southeastern cities, including Lakewood and Bellflower, have a character shaped by the postwar suburban development pattern. The city has residential neighborhoods consistent with its planned origin, along with the Lakewood Center Mall as a major retail destination. The city has an active parks and recreation program tied to the planned community's integral park spaces. Interstate 605 and State Route 91 provide freeway access.
