Palm Springs is a city in Riverside County at the western end of the Coachella Valley, at the base of the San Jacinto Mountains. The city sits at roughly 479 feet elevation on the valley floor, where the valley opens between the Little San Bernardino Mountains to the north and the San Jacinto Mountains to the south. Riverside County's resort corridor in the Coachella Valley is anchored by Palm Springs, which has been a resort destination since the mid-twentieth century. The city has a walkable downtown on Palm Canyon Drive with restaurants, galleries, and retail. The Palm Springs Aerial Tramway ascends to the San Jacinto Mountain Station at roughly 8,500 feet elevation. Joshua Tree National Park is to the north, accessible via State Route 62.
