South Gate is a city in Los Angeles County southeast of downtown Los Angeles, in the southeast gateway cities zone. The city occupies flat urban terrain in the dense residential and industrial corridor between the main LA urban core and the suburban southeast county communities. Los Angeles County's gateway cities, including South Gate, Compton, and Lynwood, have a mix of industrial and residential character. The city has a predominantly Hispanic population and commercial corridors along Long Beach Boulevard and Firestone Boulevard. The Azalea Regional Shopping Center provides retail for the area. Interstate 710 and Interstate 105 provide freeway access. The city is within the South Los Angeles transit network with several Metro bus lines serving the community.
