Wasco is a small city in Kern County in the San Joaquin Valley, northwest of Bakersfield in the county's agricultural zone. The city occupies flat valley terrain where intensive agriculture produces cotton, carrots, and other crops that benefit from the valley's irrigation infrastructure and long growing season. Kern County's northwestern San Joaquin Valley is one of the most intensively farmed areas in California, and Wasco is surrounded by agricultural fields.
