St. Simons (also written Saint Simons Island) is a barrier island in Glynn County that serves as the hub of the Golden Isles resort region off the Georgia coast. The island is home to Fort Frederica National Monument, commemorating the 1742 Battle of Bloody Marsh that helped secure British control of colonial Georgia, and a historic lighthouse dating to 1872. Sea Island, which lies adjacent to St. Simons, is home to The Cloister, one of the South's most storied luxury resorts. Two golf courses serve the St. Simons community in addition to the four listed under the Saint Simons Island name.
