Golf in Jekyll Island

Jekyll Island is a barrier island in Glynn County owned by the state of Georgia and managed as a state park. From 1886 to 1942, the island served as the exclusive winter retreat of a club whose members included the Rockefellers, Vanderbilts, Morgans, and Pulitzers — a collection of wealth so extraordinary that the Jekyll Island Club was called the most exclusive club in the world. The state acquired the island in 1947 and has maintained it as a public beach and recreational destination. The Jekyll Island Golf Club provides public golf on an island that once belonged entirely to America's gilded-age elite.
