Golf in Lewiston

Lewiston is Maine's second-largest city, built on the Androscoggin River at the Great Falls that powered the massive Bates Manufacturing textile mills from the mid-19th century onward. The Franco-American mill-worker community shaped Lewiston's character for generations, and the city has more recently become home to a substantial Somali immigrant community, one of the most notable in the northeastern United States. Bates College, one of the most selective liberal arts institutions in New England, adds an academic dimension alongside the working-city identity. Apple Valley Golf Course provides a nine-hole recreational option for a dense, diverse urban population on the western bank of the Androscoggin in central Androscoggin County.
