Golf in Silver City

Silver City was established as a mining camp following silver discoveries in the 1870s and has evolved into one of New Mexico's most culturally animated small cities. At roughly 5,900 feet in the Pinos Altos Mountains, it offers the temperate climate that has attracted retirees and remote workers alongside students at Western New Mexico University. The Gila Wilderness — the first federally designated wilderness area in the country, established in 1924 — lies within the Gila National Forest to the north. Downtown Silver City retains Victorian commercial architecture from the mining era. Silver City Golf Course serves as the community's primary recreational golf outlet, with the surrounding mountain landscape providing a setting that few similarly sized cities can match.
