Golf in Socorro

Socorro is a historic Río Abajo town along the Rio Grande in Socorro County at roughly 4,600 feet, midway between Albuquerque and Las Cruces. New Mexico Institute of Mining and Technology occupies the city, a science and engineering university whose research profile far exceeds its enrollment size. The Very Large Array — 27 radio telescope dishes spread across the San Agustín Plains west of town — is the most recognizable scientific infrastructure in the region. The city retains a traditional plaza and the San Miguel Mission, dating to the colonial period. New Mexico Tech Golf Course provides 18 holes in a setting defined by the Rio Grande corridor and the broad, open character of the upper Chihuahuan Desert.
