Golf in Hawthorne

1 golf course in Hawthorne, Nevada.

Hawthorne sits on the eastern shore of Walker Lake in Mineral County, a small city whose economy is anchored by the Hawthorne Army Depot, one of the largest ammunition storage facilities in the United States. Walker Lake is a remnant of ancient Lake Lahontan, the vast inland sea that covered much of the Great Basin roughly 12,000 years ago — today it is a terminal lake threatened by upstream diversions of the Walker River. The nine-hole par-34 Walker Lake Golf Course serves Hawthorne's residential community in a part of Nevada where golf facilities are widely spaced. The lake itself is visible from portions of the valley, and the surrounding high-desert terrain gives the course an isolated, genuinely western character.
