Eagle Pass is the county seat of Maverick County in southwest Texas on the Rio Grande, across from Piedras Negras, Coahuila, Mexico. The city is one of the Texas-Mexico border crossings in the brush country of the Rio Grande Plains, with international trade and the commercial relationship between the two communities as a central economic driver. Fort Duncan Park preserves the site of the US Army post that anchored the early settlement of Eagle Pass. Maverick County is in the semi-arid brush country of south Texas, with mesquite, cenizo, and cactus on the flat terrain above the river. The community is approximately 140 miles southwest of San Antonio and serves as the main commercial center for a remote border county. One course serves the Eagle Pass community in the semi-arid terrain of the borderlands.
