Uvalde is the county seat of Uvalde County in southwest Texas on the Nueces River in the Hill Country, known as the hometown of John Nance Garner, Franklin Roosevelt's first Vice President. The Garner Museum preserves the heritage of Garner and the pioneer families of the southwestern Hill Country. Uvalde is also a gateway to the Frio River country and the Nueces River headwaters, with excellent deer hunting in the surrounding cedar and live oak brush. The community serves the ranching and agricultural population of Uvalde County, and the Nueces River valley provides spring-fed water in the semi-arid landscape. The terrain is limestone plateau with cedar and live oak at roughly 900 feet elevation. One course serves the Uvalde community in the cedar and live oak country of Uvalde County.
